Hyderabad: The Nation celebrates Armed Forces Flag Day on December 7 every year to commemorate the monumental sacrifices made by the Armed Forces personnel in defending the territorial integrity of our Sovereign nation both during War and Peace.
As a token of gratitude and social responsibility, Armed Forces Flag Day Fund has been established by the Government in 1948 to rehabilitate and restore the honour of War Veterans, War Widows, disabled soldiers, Ex-Servicemen and their families. The fund is managed at the State level by State Managing Committee. Governor of the State is Chairman of the Committee, Chief Secretary is Vice Chairman, Senior IAS Officers, Serving and retired Defence officers are members. Citizens, Corporates, employees of Government and other PSUs contribute voluntarily for the fund by donating amounts, purchase of Car Flags and stickers, contributions, etc.
Siripuram Vishwanatham, aged 78 years, a businessman from
Huzurnagar came forward to donate a cheque for Rs. 50 Lakh for the Armed Forces Flag Day fund. Tamilisai Soundararajan,
Governor and Chairperson of Armed Forces Flag Day Fund, Telangana State, received the cheque at Raj Bhavan today. The Governor appreciated the gesture of Siripuram Vishwanatham and honored him by presenting him a shawl. The Governor has said that his kind gesture will go a long way in the welfare of Ex-Servicemen and their families.
Siripuram Vishwanatham has stated that it has been his dream to serve the Nation and hence decided to donate money for the Flag day Fund which is meant for rehabilitation of the Soldiers who are defending the Nation.
