Eluru: AP Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy today laid the foundation stone for the Government Medical College in Eluru. The government has already released Rs 20 crore for the college work out of the total budget of Rs 266 crore allocated for its construction.
The Chief Minister, who is in the district for the first time since he took office on May 30, was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Alla Kali Krishna Srinivas, Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose, local MP Kotagiri Sridhar and other officials.
A 518-bed hospital is located in an area of 12 acres within the vicinity of the government medical college. As the college requires around 50 acres of land in total, the government is planning to build the college close to the hospital and then acquire land on the outskirts of the city to build hostels for 380 students and accommodation for teaching and non-teaching staff.
The Chief Minister later launched the YSR Vahana Mithra scheme and issued cheques to the beneficiaries at ceremony held in the Indoor stadium.
