Hyderabad: Former union minister Bandaru Dattatreya on Thursday inspected Osmania General Hospital (OGH) along with party MLA T. Raja Singh and retired IAS Officer Nagender. He interacted with the out-patients and in-patients in the hospital.
Speaking on the occasion, he said all the hospitals in the State, including the OGH were filled with patients affected with dengue fever, malaria and typhoid fevers due to the criminal negligence of the State government in the monsoon season. He said the negligence of the State government in taking prompt steps to prevent prevalence of the viral fevers was clearly evident across Telangana State. He also said the situation was more severe in the districts like Adilabad, Karimnagar and Khammam.
Stating that the State government had allocated only Rs 7,375 crore for the Health sector, which was four percent of the State budget, Dattatraya demanded that the State government allocate 10 percent of the total budget to the Health Sector in the ensuing annual budget. He also alleged that CM KCR had failed to keep his promise of building a modern building on the premises of the OGH even after four years. He also said the doctors and patients were facing a lot of problems in the existing dilapidated building.
On the decision of the Union government to build 75 medical colleges in the government sector, Dattatraya expressed his pleasure and said they would be constructed by 2020 at a cost of Rs 24,000 crore. He also said there would be a total of 15,700 medical seats for students after construction of medical colleges.
