Hyderabad: The YCP Chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy , who has won landslide Victory in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly and Lok Sabha elections , entered into politics as the heir apparent of former chief minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh State YS Rajasekhar Reddy. Jagan, who has forayed into active politics in 2009, became the MP of Kadapa by banking upon the popularity of his father YSR. However, days after becoming the MP , he lost his father in a chopper crash on September 2, 2009. This has turned his entire world upside down. The efforts of his supporters and the followers of his father to make him as the next CM of the state didn’t yield any result as the congress party high command showed him a red signal. Later, when he sought permission to undertake an ‘Odarpu Yatra’ to console the family members of those who lost their lives as they were not able to bear the pain of the untimely death of the former CM YSR, he was denied the permission by the party high command. This has forced him to quit the congress party and his MP post and float his own party YSRCP.
Jagan contested as MP of Kadapa on his party ticket and his mother YS Vijayamma contested from pulivendula in the by elections. The two have won from the two seats with a comfortable majority. Later, several supporters of Jagan joined his party and contested as the party candidates in the by elections held in their constituencies. Most of them won from their seats. His party has faced the first assembly elections in the year 2014. However, YS Jagan lost the elections with a narrow margin. This has not deterred him from taking on his arch rival Nara Chandrababu Naidu, the National President Of Telugu Desam Party. He once again undertook a padayatra and toured 3648 km to muster the support of the people of the state. This has worked in his favor finally and helped him register a historic victory in the 2019 assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
